Venus/Inanna in the Underworld: "Returning to the Mother"

Updated: Jan 21

From November 2025, Venus – also known as Inanna – began her slow descent into the underworld.

On January 6th, she will be crowned Queen of the Underworld.

During her descent, she will disappear from the sky, become invisible, and enter an inner darkness where all external things lose their meaning.

Her return will not begin until mid-February .

In ancient wisdom, the underworld is not a distant place.

The underworld is the body.

The physical world.

The place where the soul meets matter, gravity, sensation and life.

To nourish the Mother – the body as home.

In Chinese medicine there is a deep and simple principle that states:

If we want to nourish the body, we must return to the Mother. To nourish the Mother is to return home to oneself and the earth. (Lis Koch)

The mother is not only our biological parent.

The mother is:

  • the body

  • the earth

  • physical life

  • the uterus, the blood, muscles, fascia, bones

  • the slow, rhythmic and cyclical

When we lose our connection to the Mother, we also lose our ability to be nourished – no matter how healthy we eat, how much we heal or optimize.

Venus' descent reminds us of this: To heal, we must sink down , not strive up.

The body as the temple of Venus.

Venus represents:

  • the body and the senses

  • love and relationships

  • dignity and self-esteem

  • money, resources and the material world

  • enjoyment, attraction and joy of life

When Venus disappears from the sky, we are called to look at:

  • How do we live in our body?

  • Do we feel safe in physical life?

  • Can we receive – love, support, enjoyment, abundance?

  • Are our relationships in contact with the body – or only the head?

  • Is there a need for boundaries in our relationships?

Venus reminds us that the spiritual is not separate from the material.

The body is not an obstacle to the soul – the body is its home.

Inanna's descent – to lose in order to remember.

Inanna passes through seven gates into the underworld. At each gate she gives up something: her crown, her jewelry, her titles, her power.

Finally, she stands naked.

This is a profound reflection of midlife.

In midlife, many women experience:

  • hormonal and physical changes

  • inflammation, pain, fatigue

  • changes in relationships and values

  • a showdown with old roles

  • a deep call home to oneself

This is not a sign that something has gone wrong.

It is the descent of Venus/Inanna that is activated in the body .

What we lose is often what stood in the way of true nourishment.

The physical world as an underworld.

In our modern culture, we have learned to survive in our heads.

To perform.

To optimize.

To control the body.

But the body cannot be controlled as a whole.

It can only be met.

The underworld is the place where we stop escaping from the physical:

  • Pain becomes a language

  • Fatigue becomes a limit

  • Inflammation becomes a call for calm and rhythm

  • Pleasure becomes medicine

When we return to the Mother – the body and the earth – the water of life begins to flow freely again.

January 6 – The inner light of Epiphany.

That this descent begins around January 6 , the day of Epiphany, is no coincidence.

Epiphany means revelation .

But revelation does not happen in the light.

It happens in the dark.

In the body.

In the silence.

This is where we see clearly, not with our eyes – but with our bones.

The gift of the underworld.

Inanna dies in the underworld.

She is hung on a hook.

Everything stops.

And only there can something new arise.

When we dare to stay in the body, in the physical world, in the pain, in the slowness – something magical happens:

  • the nervous system begins to calm down

  • the water of life can return

  • wisdom becomes bodily, not intellectual

  • the soul finds home

Wise Body Awakening – Returning Home Again

Wise Body Awakening is not an ascension away from the body.

It is a descent into it.

A journey where:

  • the body is recognized as sacred landscape

  • cycles are honored

  • inflammation is seen as a messenger, not an enemy

  • midlife becomes an initiation, not a loss

  • we learn to listen rather than fixate

Like Inanna, we do not return as who we were.

We will return more truthfully.

More naked.

More whole.

More true, more connected to the Mother.

If you find yourself in this transition – between the old and the new – then know:

You are not wrong.

You are in the underworld.

And wisdom is born.

Wise Body Awakening – returning home.

Beautiful Soul,

If you feel a call to return home to your body, to nourish the Mother within you and let the water of life flow again –

then Wise Womb & Wise Body Awakening may be for you..?

Wise Body Awakening is a journey into the domain of Venus/Inanna.

Here we meet in a slow, bodily space, where healing is not about fixing, but about listening, landing and living from within.

A journey for women in transition, midlife and change – who long to be more rooted, more true and more loving in their bodies and lives.

You are most welcome.

You don't have to take the journey alone.

Ahavah,

With love
